Our story

Roots that outlast time

It was 1920 when our great-grandfather planted the first vines in Pellare, in the locality of Santostasi. Not as a business venture — but because that land was his, and that land deserved care.

For decades the vineyard lay quietly tended, sheltered among dry-stone walls and oak woods. A hidden treasure, waiting for someone who could recognise its worth.

Then came my father. With his hands and his memory, he rediscovered those roots, brought the rows back to life, and understood that these vines held something precious: the Aglianicone — a rare, identity-defining grape native to Cilento, an authentic expression of this land.

Santostasi is more than a wine. It is the story of four generations, of a tenacious territory, of a beauty that endures.

Aglianicone: the treasured grape of Cilento

Aglianicone is a red-berry grape native to Cilento, closely related to Aglianico yet with a personality entirely its own — wilder, more rooted in the red clay and limestone of these hills.

It ripens late, deep into October. It does not hurry. Like Cilento itself, it has its own rhythm and honours it.

On the nose

Wild red fruits — blackberry, sour cherry, woodland raspberry. Herbaceous undertones, sweet spices, a hint of tobacco that emerges after a few minutes in the glass.

On the palate

Lively, clean tannins and a balanced acidity that lengthens each sip. Medium body, long finish with a return of fruit and red earth. A wine you do not forget.

Food pairings

Grilled red meats, herb-roasted lamb, artisan Cilento charcuterie, semi-aged cheeses. Excellent as a meditation wine too.

Winemaking

Hand-harvested, selected in the vineyard. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Aged in cement and bottle. No shortcuts.

The territory

Cilento: where the land is still wild

Cilento is not the Amalfi Coast. It is not a postcard. It is mountains that descend to the sea, wild boar in the woods, centuries-old olive trees, a silence that makes noise. It is a place you have to want to find.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Park, Cilento is one of the least contaminated areas of the Mediterranean: clay and limestone soils, significant temperature swings, winds that sweep down from the mountains toward the sea. In Pellare, in the locality of Santostasi, these vines have grown in that silence for over a century.

These extreme conditions — not cellar interventions — build the character of our wine. Here, terroir is not a marketing concept. It is a physical reality you taste in the glass.

Climate

Mediterranean with Apennine influences. Cold winters, hot dry summers. Harvest September–October.

Soil

Clay-limestone with exposed bedrock. Excellent natural drainage. Roots descend deep in search of water.

Altitude

200–350 m a.s.l. — high enough to ensure aromatic freshness, low enough to allow full ripening.
